Sue's second alphabet

Seasons Greetings to you and all who belong to ALAW. I won't even try to explain why I am SOOO late with this alphabet BUT wish to apologise to you and the others in the Group. At least I finished before the 31 December 2010!!

For these letters I used a Pilot Parallel Pen 3.8mm and black Acrylic Ink and slick thick paper or light-wight card. They are based on the Batarde Capitals with my own variations. Any comments would be welcome. I hope I will be allowed to do the 2011 letters. Warm regards, Sue in South Africa

Sue's second 2nd alphabet

My August letters. I have changed my theme and wish to submit a set of contemporary Batarde capitals. I was inspired by Ward Dunham exemplar which I obtained from Ewan Clayton when I attended his workshop in 2000 in Cape Town. I will re-do the July letters and hope to now catch up.  Warm regards, Sue Williams

For Sue

I was doing some glass fusing for a sculptural piece (bower) for the Lucas Parklands Sculpture on the Edge exhibition. At the same time I was doing the letter X for ALaW. It struck me that Sue uses a kiln view hole as the link to her alphabet for this first ALaW period.

The above photos show the glow of the kiln as I fused my glass; and I could not resist taking a photo of my letter X with the red glow of the viewing hole next to it. Sue I just love your alphabet.

Sue's first letters - Jan & Feb

I was inspired by Mieke's photos of the peephole of her Kiln. I wrote to her to ask if I could use the image to develop this very rounded free script, I called them  Kiln Peephole letters!   Warm regards, Sue in South Africa.
