Jim's April Letters

My letters are still in the graphic design mode and as yet I have not actually attempted a calligraphic letter form.

My left hand bias has me hesitating although it is not the barrier, it is my impatience that is the problem.

And my enthusiasm for the project and the large number of possibilities...

Posted with Clues

Gday all you letter-a-week bloggers out there in blog land ...
Here is my contribution for April ...

Each letter has been photographed in a situation that gives a clue as to the title of the picture - and in all but one case - the title begins with the letter photographed !!!!!

Let's see who the clever ones are ... there may be a prize for the winner ... there again - there may not ... but the first blogger to guess all titles and post the answers in the comments box, will win international acclaim ...

Cheers - Ken

Noela's 'r'

Well, it is Wednesday again, so here is my next letter - 'r'.
Thanks to the letter 'h' [March 23rd], I have made 2 other letters, 'n' and now 'r'. Quite easy with a bit of quick cloning and re sizing.

Kim Schoenberger - ALaW 2010 - NOPQ

At first, my journey with applying the Discarded object to ALaW has been a fun exercise, upon reflection, I can see that it has far surpassed 'a fun exercise' into choosing each letter with much more care and thought, extending myself into looking past the obvious.
Literally I am placing each letter within the square. Ironically... the whole process is teaching me to look outside the square!
N - is the end sawn off, from a serated handsaw blade. Upon closer inspection and to the left of the edge of 'N' is a serated edge (not really visible in the photo).
O - a neat little washer'y - spacer - thingy! I kinda liked that it had a double rim to it.
P - a Nut and Bolt welded together.
Q - a hose clamp, even though this letter is a bit tad smaller than my other letters, it just happen to have a nice 'Q' charm to it.

Heather's April Letters

More fun found on my daily walk. Heather

Marg's April (May & June) letters

I will be travelling overseas soon so I am getting in ahead of schedule. Enjoy my letters.

April Letters

These four letters were created using masking fluid, ink and water on watercolour paper.

Blocks

I wasn't sure what I was going to do with the letters, but decided to make a set of blocks. The block base is constructed from drawing paper. The letters are glued to the block face with Yes! Paste.

Sue's April letters

Here are more of the kiln-peep hole design letters...

Barry's metal letters for April

Wow! The end of the month does come around quite quickly. I have created N, O, P and Q as my April letters.

As you can see the brass still flows - I have been lucky lately to get a few more brass pot plant pots on a visit to a bric a brac shop in Woodford. Because N is the only letter with straight lines it got the foldform treatment. O is stamped and beaten from the back; P has been engraved; and Q has been stamped but also punched front and back.

Both P and Q were experiments for me. I liked using the engraving tool - it enabled me to leave the original oxidised brass colour behind and also create a furry look to the letter. I like how the Q has ended up with a scale look about it. O needs a bit of a trim. I continue to have fun with the letters.

Fiona's April Letters

Here are my four for the past month. The experimentation continues and there have been LOTS of learnings!

'N' is etched aluminium. Even after leaving it in the acid bath overnight at 1:1 ratio only the faintest surface metal was removed.

'O' I used freezer paper for a stencil and used the negative space to create the letter - done with gold paint on rusted fabric

'P' I bled ink along the bottom edge of the paper, drew the letter with ink; then adhered metal foil to squares of double sided tape. Thanks Noela!

'Q' I experimented with a Speedy-Cut carving block and carved out the letter, rolled ink onto the block and ended up usingthe block like a stamp. Not the most elegant of letters sorry.

Autumn changes - cooler walks

Christine - Well I have taken an autumn walk further afield and some black boys from Tin Can Bay area have been included in my "doggie walk" collection. I hope you can differentiate what is what. My "O" last time did not photograph exceptionally well...For this post my "U" and "S" have been travelling the highway in the back of the ute, but I am afraid none of the others have ventured out. I hope they don't hear what the other letters have been doing or there could be mutiny afoot!

May letters from Linda

Here is my May set of letters - plus the letter G because I seem to have posted the letter I twice... so I only have 6 more to go in this alphabet set. I expect you are getting bored of all these black and white letters now (I am!) so I promise my next alphabet is going to be colourful!

April Letters

This month doodling in the lines and outside the lines. Then, inspired by the minimalist exhibit at the Worcester Art Museum. Recycling a bit from a practice sheet of watercolor tulips; the "U" popped out. Happy Beltaine, Happy May Day

Week 17

Hi all,
I figure if we are into week 17, thanks to Fiona's chart [see, I am using it!!], we should have 17 letters posted by now. I need to post 2 to be up to date, so here they are.
P - select, copy, paste, clone
This one was a little tricky as I had to add some more shadow to the left side of the bolt to make it more convincing.

Q - flip, lasso, copy, paste, add shadow.
...again, a bit tricky but fun 'cos I like the end result.
